Lightbringer
Illuminating the future of patent protection
Branding for a tech startup disrupting the legal industry by democratising the patenting process with AI.
The challenge
Patenting can be complex, costly and time-consuming. Enter Lightbringer, a Swedish tech startup revolutionising the patent protection industry. By pairing AI-driven software with the expertise of seasoned patent attorneys, it cuts through traditional legal bureaucracy and makes patenting simple and accessible.
Founded with a vision to “drive innovation by democratising patent protection,” Lightbringer is a disruptor that enables founders to secure their intellectual property quickly and affordably. With its sights set on rapid growth and international expansion within two years, the business needed a brand that matched its ambition.
Having previously worked with co-founder Dominic Davies on branding for another innovative company (see Reccan case study), I was delighted to be invited to create a fit-for-purpose identity for Lightbringer as they prepared for expansion.

Positioning with personality
The Lightbringer team had a working brand to get off the ground, but needed a system that could grow with them – credible enough for investors and law firms, charismatic enough to connect with innovators, and distinctive enough to stand out in a fast-paced tech market. Through discovery sessions, we clarified the brand personality:
Uplifting – positive and enabling
Dependable – secure and trusted
Straightforward – intuitive and simple
Confident – self-assured and engaging
Dynamic – imaginative and agile
There are many legal and patenting companies. But Lightbringer is a trailblazer. To help increase its chances of commercial success, we worked together to define a clear identity brief: to express personality, build trust in AI, and position Lightbringer as a quality-focused partner – always acting in the best interests of its users.
Building trust without cliché
In a sector saturated with predictable corporate blues and tired tech clichés (think lightbulbs and circuit boards), Lightbringer needed something different. Something more human.
Inspired by sunbeams, the new visual identity reflects Lightbringer’s role as a guardian and guide – enabling innovators and lighting the way forward. This concept ties directly to both the brand’s name and its purpose.
At the centre of the identity is a wordmark logo, where a radiant sunburst emerges from the letter ‘L’. This theme of light and motion flows through the rest of the visual system – from radial patterns to a curated starter image library that deliberately avoids dark, futuristic AI stereotypes. Instead, I selected nature-based imagery to create a sense of reality and new beginnings, always with a presence of light to reinforce the brand’s purpose. Northern lights imagery also nods to Lightbringer’s Nordic roots.
Animation by Wes at Jolt adds further movement, character and energy to the brand elements across digital platforms.
A palette with purpose
A fresh and grounded palette leads with forest green, signalling stability, prestige and trust. This is paired with highlighter yellow-green accents for energy. Additional natural greens and warm neutrals give balance and depth, avoiding the cold sterility often associated with AI.
Typography blends the timeless with the modern: a refined serif adds substance and credibility, while a clean sans serif brings approachability and clarity.
To wrap the project, I developed brand guidelines covering everything from brand strategy to practical implementation, demonstrating how to use the brand toolkit to create brand awareness and prioritise accessibility. I also designed a starter website and a suite of branded templates, enabling the marketing team to produce on-brand communications quickly and confidently.
Designing for scale and impact
With a full identity system in place, Lightbringer now has the tools it needs to grow with confidence. The visual brand supports everything from investor presentations and merchandise to digital marketing, giving the team consistency, clarity and credibility.
From startup to standout
In just two years since launch, the brand has played a key role in communicating Lightbringer’s mission and accelerating its commercial success. A strong, future-focused brand identity has contributed to several key outcomes:
A successful €4.2 million seed raise to fuel further innovation
Expansion into the UK with a new Cambridge hub
Rapid scaling of the team from 6 to 26 people
Increased trust from law firms and early clients in a traditionally cautious sector
Considered branding has helped elevate Lightbringer from promising startup to credible tech leader – clearly positioned for investment, trust, and global growth. It’s been a privilege to help shape a brand that champions innovation and empowers others to protect their creations.
Client feedback
“Investing in our brand has helped us level up. We needed something credible and scalable, and this identity system has delivered exactly that. It feels professional, flexible and true to who we are.”
